Job 01 · Engine and diagnostics
A warning light has come on
Engine and diagnosticsMost dashboard lights mean the car's computer has stored a fault code. Amber usually means get it looked at soon. Red means stop when it's safe.
We plug in professional diagnostic equipment, read the codes and then test the part they point to, so you're not paying to swap parts on a guess.
-
Job 03 · Brakes
Squealing or grinding when I brake
BrakesA squeal is often the wear tab telling you the pads are getting thin. Grinding usually means they've worn through to the metal and are cutting into the discs.
Don't leave grinding. Pads on their own are a quicker, cheaper job than pads and discs together.
-
Job 04 · Suspension
Clunks or knocks over bumps
SuspensionKnocks over potholes and speed bumps usually come from a broken coil spring, a worn drop link, a tired shock absorber or a perished bush. Peak District roads find them quickly.
We find which corner it's coming from and tell you what's worn.
-
Job 02 · Gearbox and clutch
Crunching gears or a slipping clutch
Gearbox and clutchCrunching into gear, a clutch that bites right at the top, or revs climbing without the car speeding up are the usual signs of a worn clutch or a gearbox problem.
Hill starts on the climb out of Buxton show it up first. Ring us before it leaves you stuck.

Job 01 · Engine and diagnostics
Losing power or running rough
Engine and diagnosticsHesitating, misfiring, juddering at idle or dropping into limp mode can be anything from a coil pack or a sensor to an air leak or a blocked valve.
This is where a proper diagnostic check earns its keep: we find the fault first, then talk to you about fixing it.
-
Jobs 03 and 04 · Brakes or suspension
Pulling to one side
BrakesIf it only pulls when you brake, a sticking caliper is the usual cause. If it pulls all the time, it could be tyre pressures, worn steering or suspension parts, or the alignment.
We check the simple things first.

Advice
From the workshop
Plain answers to the questions we get asked most.
-
Getting your car ready for a High Peak winter
Snow, grit and frost-broken roads are hard on cars. The checks to do before the weather turns, and the faults winter finds first.
-
Engine warning light on? What a diagnostic check actually involves
A light on the dashboard doesn't always mean a big bill. What the colours mean, what a diagnostic check involves, and why a fault code is only the start.
-
Squeal, grind or soft pedal: what your brakes are telling you
Brakes usually give plenty of warning before they fail. What the common noises and feelings mean, and why the hills round Buxton wear brakes faster.
